Ans)   the title ' Asleep in the valley ' is ironical . Irony lies in the word ' Asleep ' because the soldier is not sleeping . He is founded with two bullet injuries visible on his side .   The soldier is a victim of war .  So the title of the poem carries with it a sense of safety , beauty and peace but the end of the poem cancels this element by the shocking discovery of the death of the soldier . 

The soldiers sleep is actually . The eternal sleep of death . Such a contrast revails that the poem is eronically titled and the poet uses the title to expose the atrocities of war and it's futility in a subtle manner .
